Solutions from Last Sprint -- WeighIn20090820Retrospective

Solutions to - A number of laptops couldn't connect with the weigh-in scales for driver reasons... were not checked out before hand.

  • Fully follow solution from previous retrospective and follow the created checklist and check out all equipment integration quality.
  • Purchase needed scale-laptop connectors

What went well

Weighed 4000 kids with lots of gaps, no traffic/parking issues and finished early.

-- SolomonThompson - 30 Aug 2009

Much fewer exception cases than previous year.

-- SolomonThompson - 30 Aug 2009

Football Commissioners mostly were ecstatic with getting issues resolved quickly and with being able to get their kids through the process with little stress.

What didn't go well

There were a number of kids which didn't show up on the client machines while they were clearly in the BlueJeanTime cloud.

-- SolomonThompson - 30 Aug 2009

Some of the machines could not connect to the Internet and so could not upload the weigh in data to the BlueJeanTime cloud immediately following the weigh in. The impact was that we had to take the machines back to the office, backup the databases, then move the databases to machines which could connect to the BlueJeanTime cloud.

No current way to Reassign Busted Players (failed weight class).

Root Cause Analysis

Pattern - There were a number of kids which didn't show up on the client machines while they were clearly in the BlueJeanTime cloud.

  • Why?

There could be a problem with the download service

    • problem could be with the program and vista's security approach (some computers work fine with the download program... haven't nailed down whether or not it is an operating system problem or something else)

-- SolomonThompson - 30 Aug 2009

Solution Suggestions

  • Verify before the weigh-in that the database is complete (compare the number of players in the BlueJeanTime cloud db to the number in EACH client machine's db and make sure they are close (will not be exact because there are a few invalid players in the BlueJeanTime cloud). This should be part of the checklist.

Pattern - Some of the machines could not connect to the Internet

  • Why?

For some unknown reason, some of the laptops would not leverage Internet sharing with our Internet connected Mac-Books

    • don't know why

-- SolomonThompson - 30 Aug 2009

Solution Suggestions

  • Verify Mac-Book sharing capability for each of the machines before each future weigh-in

Pattern - No current way to Reassign Busted Players (failed weight class).

  • Why?

The Biz Service doesn't exist yet.

    • Developers distracted by support issues
    • Test data hard to set up

-- SolomonThompson - 30 Aug 2009

Solution Suggestions

  • Implement the Reassign Busted Players biz service
  • Set up a parallel server to production, separate from Integration server
